Solarize Now! is modeled after the community driven Solarize program of Portland, Oregon, which installed hundreds of solar systems in just a few months. The Solarize Portland program has since received national recognition from both non-profit and for-profit solar companies and the US Department of Energy as "a grassroots effort to help overcome the financial and logistical hurdles of installing solar power".
